Background

Pastor Cheryl Broome is the current pastor at Helotes Hills United Methodist Church.

Pastor Cheryl is originally from Syracuse, NY and lived in the Northeast until landing in Oklahoma City, OK. Later, her family moved to San Antonio, TX where she graduated from John Marshall High School.

Pastor Cheryl met her husband, Kevin, and married June 7, 1986. They were blessed with two sons, Matt, and Eric. They have two dogs, Skipper and Dusty. 

In 1999, Pastor Cheryl's family departed San Antonio for seminary at Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary where they began the process of ordained ministry.

She was ordained as an Elder in 2006 and has served since 2001 at FUMC Elgin; St. Luke UMC, San Angelo; Hyde Park UMC, Austin; The Rock UMC, Cedar Park; Decker Lane UMC, Austin and St. John’s UMC, Austin.

Rev. Will Rice
Coming Pastor effective July 1, 2025

Rev. Will Rice is an ordained United Methodist Elder who has served in the Rio Texas and Southwest Texas Conferences since 2005. He was ordained in 2008 and received his Master of Divinity from Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary and his Bachelor of Communications from The State University of New York College at Fredonia.

He has served at Oak Hill UMC in Austin, Grace UMC in Corpus Christi, University UMC in San Antonio, and as the Director of Communications and Media Support for the Rio Texas Annual Conference.

Will is married to Karen, who serves as the Director of Music and Worship at First UMC, Boerne. Between them, they have four children: Kaithe, a senior at Texas State; Joshua, a freshman at UTSA; Karis, and Sam, both in the eighth grade. They share their home with their dog, Sahara, cat, Minerva, and a tortoise named Bellona.

Prior to his call to ministry, Will was a radio disc jockey on-the-air in Allentown, Pennsylvania, and Austin, Texas.
