Thanksgiving Baskets
Every year, HHUMC collects canned and non-perishable foods. We purchae HEB gifts cards for a ham or turkey. These items are put together in Thanksgiving baskets and distributed to people in need in the Helotes area. The recipients of these baskets do not need to be a member of HHUMC or a Christian. We ask that they just enjoy the holiday, knowing that some cares. If you know of someone or a family who can use a Thanksgiving basket, please contact the church office.
Christmas Angels
Every November, we collect the names of families who would like to be on our Angel Tree. In December, church members take angels off of the tree, buy the gift, wrap it, and bring the gift to the church. A week or so before Christmas, the gifts are delivered. The outpouring of love and generousity is truly amazing.
BAMC Project
Joanne Miller and HHUMC members are collecting phone cards and cookies to take to BAMC each Friday. The service men and women receive these phone cards so they may call home. Patients and their families enjoy the cookies. Please help this worthwhile endeavor by placing phone cards in the offering plates on Sunday, giving them to Joanne, or dropping them by the church office. Cookies may be placed in the freezer in the church kitchen.
Helotes Cornyval
The Helotes Cornyval is a wonderful event, held at the fairgrounds for over forty years. It began as a community fund raiser, benefitting local churchs, scouts, 4H, and others. HHUMC has been a part of the Cornyval each year since it's inception. We are famous for our chicken tacos! The next Cornyval is coming soon. Proceeds benefit HHUMC Ministries and Scholarship Program for our high school seniors. If you would like to participate, contact the church office.
Operation Christmas Child
It's a heartbreaking reality. Millions of boys and girls around the globe live in difficult circumstances and are in desperate need of hope. Whether they are slub dwellers in Calcutta or orphans in Johannesburg, children long to know that they are loved. Since 1993, this project has shared the Good News of God's love with hurting children through the simplest of gifts - shoe boxes! Filled with school supplies, toys, and personal items that are packed by caring people, these boxes help introduce children to Jesus Christ.
HHUMC participates in this program each fall. This year we sent 168 shoeboxes! We hope to send even more in 2010.
PET - Personal Energy Transportation
PET is a three-wheeled, off-road wheelchair, operated by hand power. built by a faith-based, non-profit, volunteer organization, PETs are delivered at no cost to people in developing countries who have lost the use of the legs due to birth defects, polio, diabetes, spinal cord injuries, landmines, or war.
HHUMC members work within the San Antonio affiliate and funds are contributed each year. More volunteers are needed. More funds too! Contact 210-602-3246 to help with this mission.
Pumpkin Patch - Pumpkins With a Purpose
For many years, our Pumpkin Patch sales have been the primary fundraiser for the church. We have a beautiful setting, ideal for family pictures. Many schools bring their students for our storytime sessions and group pictures. More important than the sales is the opportunity for families to gather among the pumpkins for fun. We offer prayer cards and lift up those prayers at our worship services. Though lots of work and commitment, the Patch offers members the opportunity to meet others in the church, and work together to serve our community. Come check us out this next October!
