Hi! I’m Frank Baik, the Director of Discipleship Formation at HHUMC. That translates roughly, Children’s Ministry Director. I am a graduate of Drew Theological Seminary and am in the process of becoming ordained in the United Methodist Church as a Deacon. Why a Deacon? Honestly, I don’t like administration. And don’t want the headache of running the whole church. I don’t have the gift of seeing the big vision, passing it on to a congregation, and getting them mobilized behind it. No, I am a refiner and fine tuner. I recognize good ideas and improve upon them. I love helping others, distill their good ideas into great ones. My job now is finding those who want to serve, and helping them to show others who Jesus is.  The mission of Helotes Hills is to offer Christ to all.  Following in that vein, the Children’s Ministry seeks to model Christ for children and families, and to make models of Christ.

Our goal in Children’s Ministry is to present Christ in a way that is engaging to children. I believe that modeling is the best way. Our staff seeks to treat children as Jesus would treat them. We want children to experience the love of God. Experience is something children can understand and something that children will be willing to receive.  Sunday School meets between the 8:30 a.m. and the 11:00 a.m. service, running from about 9:45 a.m. - 10:45 a.m. Most families with children attend the 11:00 a.m. service, but you are welcome to attend the 8:30 a.m. service if that works better for you.

We are in the process of developing a Children’s Choir (K-5th grade.) We meet Sundays from 12:10 - 12:30 (right after the 11am service) and Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. and will be practicing for the Easter Pageant from now to Easter.

Youth Group (grades 6-12), Sundays, 5:00 p.m. Youth group does a local mission or service project every month. We always focus on worship and building community. It’s important for young people to form strong, quality friendships. Our mission in Youth group is to develop young people’s unique, spiritual lives. We are currently teaching on Spiritual Warfare and learning Martial Arts at the same time. This is a free program for anyone who is interested. Plus, it’s a fun way to learn what the Bible has to say about various topics related with martial arts.

We usually meet in a large group, with food, worship and discovery. We then break off into small groups for more discussion and activities. Lorena Paul leads Middle School (grades 6-8), and Zach Jewell leads High School (grades 9-12).

The Sunday School program is growing. We will add classes to accommodate students, but this is where we are right now.
